Camp Nanowrimo Winner
You may be familiar with Nanowrimo – National Novel Writing Month – which takes place in November each year. It’s a challenge that sees hundreds of thousands of people all over the world try to write 50,000 words in a month! Yes, it’s a crazy lunatic idea, and I’ve never won, but it’s a great way to kickstart a project.
The good folks at Nanowrimo also run mini Camps throughout the year. These are also month long challenges but the difference is that you set your own goal. It could be to finish your draft, edit a manuscript, or whatever. The point is that you make your goal and you stick to it.
This year, I went into Camp Nanowrimo after someone on the So You Think You Want to be a Writer Facebook group said they were going to do it. Sure, I thought. Why not? I like goals, I like challenges.
My goal was to finish my novella which I plan to enter into the Mslexia novella comp later in the year. I needed about 10,000 words, I thought, to get it across the line.
Well, I’m pleased to say that during Camp Nanowrimo, I wrote 16,368 words, finished my novella, and even started on a new one.
I am a Camp Nanowrimo winner, and DAMN it feels good 🙂
