A Cyrillic obsession
It only takes a few minutes to get a vague understanding of the Cyrillic alphabet and it’s definitely worth your time if you’re heading to Serbia, Bulgaria or Bosnia. There are a lot of good resources online and you should spend part of your train, plane or bus journey running through some flashcards.
But beware. Once you ‘know’ Cyrillic letters, you will obsessively try to decipher everything you can. You’ll find yourself staring at a menu, sounding out each letter individually, like some sort of crazed squawking sea lion.
K…. A…. F…. E….
It’s wildly addictive, particularly when you find familiar ‘English’ words hidden in the script.
